Professor Phynn WIP
I have put a few teasers out about this new piece in the last few posts. I feel it is time to introduce Professor Phynn properly. ( if not briefly) Professor Phynn is the first of a pair of intrepid explorers that I have in the works. Armed with charts, maps, and a heavy load of scientific instruments, Professor Phynn is off in uncharted territory to explore the secrets beyond the edges of the map. At this point, I am satisfied with the basic elements of the sculpt...pose, , emotion, and concept. The skin tone has turned out really well, although I must say the above picture does not do justice to the depth and variation of color. The details have yet to be finalized, and will make or break this piece in their execution. I have no time frame in mind for completion of this project. I prefer to work as inspiration ebbs and flows, riding the tides of strangeness wherever they may take my imagination.

This is a great piece to wake up to, Dave!
ReplyDeleteI'm always happy with how your process creates an effortless surface texture and picks up the little natural pockmarks and nicks that hint at your characters' years of hard adventuring, eldritch experimentation, and general monster-wrangling.
Any future owners will need a fresh stock of sardines handy to keep this fella' happy.
I've been waiting to get a better look at this guy since you posted the group shot, and I am still hungry for more images and angles.
ReplyDeleteHe's really cool Dave, and a nice departure from your normal creatures which makes me excited to see you step off the path again and show us new monsters we haven't dreamed of.
