Don't Mess with the Ladie's Auxilary

This is one of my favorite old photos that I have collected. There is a wealth of inspiration in these stern faces and hard glares. I certainly wouldn't want to get on the bad side of this group of ladies. I imagine the photographer told them all to smile and this is the best he could get.

I see a singular thought portrayed from this gathering...

"Take the damn picture before we crush your walnuts, Roosevelt!"

  1. It's a lovely photo, all the same. I have a photograph of my swedish great-grandmother and 5 of her sisters in which they are all posed very stiffly, no-nonsense, all block shaped and starched apron covered. For some reason it makes me smile.

  2. I thought I caught a glimmer of a smile/smirk in the back row until I realized that the dear old girl was simply squinting. Reminds me of my Grandmother and how I used to love pushing her buttons until she finally relented and surrendered a smile (or was it a squint?).
    Thanks Dave,

  3. I smile when I look at this picture too, Carrie. The second from the left on the bottom row reminds me so much of my Great Grandmother. I see no clues as to what this group truly represents, but i sure would like to be invited to dinner in their church basement!
